AriesThe Ram March 20th - April 20th Element: Fire Planet: Mars Quality: Cardinal |
CompatibilitiesGenerally, the natives of Aries are considered to be compatible with the natives of the other fire signs, Leo and Sagittarius, and air signs such as Libra, Gemini, and Aquarius. There are many variables that determine compatibility in astrology, such as birth dates, birth months, birth years, position of the Sun, the Moon, Stars, etc, within a sign. The signs listed as compatible with Aries do not reflect an individual profile or individual reading as interpreted within astrology, but rather reflect a general guideline and reference to compatibility as dictated by variables such as Qualities and Elements within the Zodiac. The branch of astrology dealing with interpersonal compatibilities is called Synastry. [1] |
TaurusThe Bull
April 20th - May 21st Element: Earth Planet: Venus Quality: Fixed |
MythologyIn Greek mythology, Taurus was identified with Zeus, who assumed the form of a magnificent white bull to protect Europa, a legendary Phoenician princess. In illustrations, only the front portion of this constellation are depicted; in Greek mythology this was sometimes explained as Taurus being partly submerged as he carried Europa out to sea. Greek mythographer Acusilaus marks the bull Taurus as the same that formed the myth of the Cretan Bull, one of The Twelve Labors of Heracles. CompatibilitiesGenerally, the natives of Taurus are considered to be compatible with the natives of the other earth signs, Virgo and Capricorn, and the natives of the water signs, Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. Leo and Aquarius are signs of the other nature (masculine/extroverted), but are considered semi-compatible with Taurus due to them having the same fixed quality. There are many variables in the astrology chart that determine compatibility of individuals. The position of the Sun, the Moon, the planets and the aspects they form with each other are assessed by astrologers before judgment on compatibility is made. The signs listed as compatible with Taurus do not reflect an individual profile or individual reading as interpreted within astrology, but rather reflect a general guideline and reference to compatibility as dictated by variables such as Qualities and Elements within the Zodiac. The branch of astrology dealing with interpersonal compatibilities is called Synastry. [1] |
GeminiThe Twins
May 21st - June 21st Element: Air Planet: Mercury Quality: Mutable |
MythologyGemini were the twin brothers Castor and Pollux in Greek mythology, also sometimes known as Iabal and Ivbal. They were the sons of Leda by Tyndareus and Zeus respectively. They were also the brothers of Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra. They are known collectively in Greek as the Dioscuri (Greek: Διόσκουροι, Dioskouroi) "sons of Zeus." CompatibilitiesGenerally, the natives of Gemini are considered to be compatible with the natives of the other air signs, Libra and Aquarius, and the natives of the fire signs, Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. Virgo and Pisces are signs of the other nature (feminine/introverted), but are considered semi-compatible with Gemini due to them having the same mutable quality. There are many variables in the astrology chart that determine compatibility of individuals. The position of the Sun, the Moon, the planets and the aspects they form with each other are assessed by astrologers before judgment on compatibility is made. The signs listed as compatible with Gemini do not reflect an individual profile or individual reading as interpreted within astrology, but rather reflect a general guideline and reference to compatibility as dictated by variables such as Qualities and Elements within the Zodiac. The branch of astrology dealing with interpersonal compatibilities is called Synastry. [1] |
CancerThe Crab
June 21st - July 23rd Element: Water Planet: Moon Quality: Cardinal |
MythologyAccording to an ancient Greek legend, the figure of a crab was placed in the nightime sky by the goddess Hera to form the constellation Cancer. Hera swore to kill Heracles, the most famous Greek hero. Hera attempted to kill Heracles in many different ways, but each time his incredible physical strength allowed him to survive. Hera cast a spell of madness on Heracles, causing him to commit a great crime. In order to be forgiven, he had to perform twelve difficult tasks. One of these tasks was destroying the terrible nine-headed water-serpent, Hydra. During the battle between Heracles and Hydra, the goddess Hera sent a crab to aid the serpent. But Heracles, being so strong, killed the crab by smashing its shell with his foot. As a reward for its service, Hera placed the crab's image in the night sky. CompatibilitiesGenerally, the natives of Cancer are considered to be compatible with the natives of the other water signs, Scorpio and Pisces, and the natives of the earth signs, Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. Aries and Libra are signs of the other nature (masculine/extroverted), but are considered semi-compatible with Cancer due to them having the same cardinal quality. There are many variables that determine compatibility in astrology, such as birth dates, birth months, birth years, position of a sign within the Moon, Stars, etc. The signs listed as compatible with Cancer do not reflect an individual profile or individual reading as interpreted within astrology, but rather reflect a general guideline and reference to compatibility as dictated by variables such as Qualities and Elements within the Zodiac. The branch of astrology dealing with interpersonal compatibilities is called Synastry. [1] |
LeoThe Lion
July 23rd - August 23rd Element: Fire Planet: Sun Quality: Fixed |
CompatibilitiesGenerally, the natives of Leo are considered to be compatible with the natives of other fire signs, Aries and Sagittarius, and the natives of the air signs, Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. Taurus and Scorpio are signs of the other nature (feminine/introverted), but are considered semi-compatible with Leo due to them having the same fixed quality. There are many variables that determine compatibility in astrology, such as birth dates, birth months, personalities, birth years, times of birth (specific), position of a sign within the Sun, the Moon, Stars, etc. The signs listed as compatible with Leo do not reflect an individual profile or individual reading as interpreted within astrology, but rather reflect a general guideline and reference to compatibility as dictated by variables such as Qualities and Elements within the Zodiac. The branch in astrology dealing with interpersonal compatibilities is called Synastry. MythologyMany civilizations over thousands of years have portrayed the constellation of Leo as a lion. One theory is that the Sun was among its stars in Midsummer, during which time the lions of the Egyptian desert left their accustomed haunts for the banks of the Nile, where they could find relief from the heat in the waters of the inundation. Pliny the Elder wrote that the Egyptians worshipped the stars of Leo because the rise of their great river coincided with the Sun entering among them. The constellation is referred to in an inscription on the walls of the Ramesseum at Thebes, which, like the Nile temples generally, was adorned with the animal's bristles. On the planisphere of Dendera, its figure is shown standing on an outstretched serpent. The Egyptian stellar Lion, however, comprised only a part of the modern constellation, and in the earliest records some of its stars were shown as a knife, whereas they now are as a sickle. Kircher gave its title there as Πιμεντεκεων, Cubitus Nili. The Persians called Leo Ser or Shir; the Turks, Artan; the Syrians, Aryo; the Jewish, Arye; the Indians, Simha ; all meaning a lion. In Babylonian astronomy these stars were called UR.GU.LA - the 'Great Lion'; the bright star, Regulus, that stands at the Lion's breast also had distinctly regal associations as it was known as the King Star. In Greek mythology, it was identified as the Nemean Lion which was killed by Hercules during one of his twelve labours, and subsequently put into the sky. The Roman poet Ovid called it Herculeus Leo and Violentus Leo. Bacchi Sidus (Star of Bacchus) was another of its titles, the god Bacchus always being identified with this animal. However, Manilius called it Jovis et Junonis Sidus (Star of Jupiter and Juno). Early Hindu astronomers knew it as Asleha and as Sinha, the Tamil Simham. [1] |

ScorpioThe Scorpion
October 23rd - November 22nd Element: Water Planet: Mars Quality: Fixed |
CompatibilitiesGenerally, the natives of Scorpio are considered to be compatible with the natives of the other water signs, Cancer and Pisces, and the natives of the earth signs, Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. Leo and Aquarius are signs of the other nature (masculine/extroverted), but are considered semi-compatible with Scorpio due to them having the same fixed quality. There are many variables that determine compatibility in astrology, such as birth dates, birth months, birth years, position of a sign within the Moon, Stars, etc. The signs listed as compatible with Scorpio do not reflect an individual profile or individual reading as interpreted within astrology, but rather reflect a general guideline and reference to compatibility as dictated by variables such as Qualities and Elements within the Zodiac. The branch of astrology dealing with interpersonal compatibilities is called Synastry. MythologyIn Greek Mythology, the myths associated with Scorpio almost invariably also contain a reference to Orion. However, there are two contrasting stories about the two. One tale is that Orion was cyclopes who was a great hunter and very modest about his amazing skill. One day he fell in love with a princess of an island he was passing, but her father refused to let his daughter go and, thus, was determined to keep Orion away from the princess. The king did so by blinding Orion, thus not letting him hunt and amaze the woman. Orion traveled to the Sun which healed his eye, and decided to lay off the king (who later died from a war)and pursued his hunting. He became great friends with Artemis, who favored Orion greatly for his modesty and superb skill at hunting. One day Apollo was jealous that the two were great friends, and sent a harsh scorpion at him and stung his heel. Artemis, furious with her brother killed the scorpion and threatened to throw Delphi, Apollo's beloved city, into ruins if he did not apologize, which he hastily did. Zeus decided that Orion should be put in the stars, and the scorpion should always chase him; therefore, the constellation Orion appears in the winter, running away from the constellation of Scorpio which arrives in the summer. There are multiple tales of the two, however. According to one of these myths it is written that Orion boasted to goddess Artemis and her mother, Leto, that he would kill every animal on the earth. Although Artemis was known to be a hunter herself she offered protection to all creatures. Artemis and her mother Leto sent a scorpion to deal with Orion. The pair battled and the scorpion killed Orion. However, the contest was apparently a lively one that caught the attention of the king of the gods, Zeus, who later raised the scorpion to heaven and afterwards, at the request of Artemis, did the same for Orion to serve as a reminder for mortals to curb their excessive pride. According to another of these myths, Scorpio was a friend of Taurus the bull, who was hunted and killed by Orion. In retaliation for his friend, Scorpio stung Orion to death, but was crushed beneath the hunter's feet when he thrashed about in his death throes. All three were then put into the sky by Zeus so that their story would be remembered. [1] |
SagittariusThe Archer
November 22nd - December 22nd Element: Fire Planet: Jupiter Quality: Mutable |
MythologyIn Greek mythology, Sagittarius is identified as a centaur: half human, half horse. In some legends, the Centaur Chiron was the son of Philyra and Saturn, who said to have changed himself into a horse to escape his jealous wife, Rhea. Chiron was eventually immortalized in the constellation of Centaurus or in some versions, Sagittarius. CompatibilitiesGenerally, the natives of Sagittarius are considered to be compatible with the natives of the other fire signs, Aries and Leo, and the natives of the air signs, Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. Virgo and Pisces are signs of the other nature (feminine/introverted), but are considered semi-compatible with Sagittarius due to them having the same mutable quality. There are many variables that determine compatibility in astrology, such as birth dates, birth months, personalities, birth years, times of birth (specific), position of a sign within the Sun, the Moon, Stars, etc. The signs listed as compatible with Sagittarius do not reflect an individual profile or individual reading as interpreted within astrology, but rather reflect a general guideline and reference to compatibility as dictated by variables such as Qualities and Elements within the Zodiac. The branch in astrology dealing with interpersonal compatibilities is called Synastry. [1] |
CapricornThe Sea Goat
December 22nd - January 20th Element: Earth Planet: Saturn Quality: Cardinal |
MythologyThe constellation is usually depicted as a goat with a fish's tail. One myth says that when the goat-god Pan was attacked by the monster Typhon, he dove into the Nile; the parts above the water remained a goat, but those under the water transformed into a fish. Capricorn is sometimes depicted as a sea-goat, and sometimes as a terrestrial goat. The reasons for this are unknown, but the image of a sea-goat goes back at least to Babylonian times. Furthermore the Sumerian god Enki's symbols included a goat and a fish, which later combined into a single beast, the goat Capricorn, recognized as the Zodiacal constellation Capricornus.
CompatibilityGenerally, the natives of Capricorn are considered to be compatible with the natives of the other earth signs, Taurus and Virgo, and the natives of the water signs, Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. Aries and Libra are signs of the other nature (masculine/extroverted), but are considered semi-compatible with Capricorn due to them having the same cardinal quality. There are many variables that determine compatibility in astrology, such as birth dates, birth months, birth years, sign within the Sun, the Moon, Stars. The signs listed as compatible with Capricorn do not reflect an individual profile or individual reading as interpreted within astrology, but rather reflect a general guideline and reference to compatibility as dictated by variables such as Qualities and Elements within the Zodiac. The branch of astrology dealing with interpersonal compatibilities is called Synastry. [1] |
AquariusThe Water Carrier January 20th - February 19th Element: Air Planet: Saturn Quality: Fixed |
MythologyAquarius is sometimes identified with Ganymede, a beautiful youth in Greek mythology with whom Zeus fell in love and, in the disguise of an eagle (represented by the constellation Aquila) carried off to Olympus to be "cup-bearer" to the gods. Aquarius has also been identified as the pourer of the waters that flooded the Earth in the ancient Greek version of the Great Flood myth. As such, the constellation Eridanus the river is sometimes identified as a river being poured by Aquarius. Aquarius may also, together with the constellation Pegasus, be part of the origin of the myth of the Mares of Diomedes, which forms one of The Twelve Labours of Heracles. Its association with pouring out rivers, and the nearby constellation of Capricornus, may be the source of the myth of the Augean stable, which forms another of the labours. CompatibilitiesGenerally, the natives of Aquarius are considered to be compatible with the natives of the other air signs, Gemini and Libra, and the natives of the fire signs, Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. Taurus and Scorpio are signs of the other nature (feminine/introverted), but are considered semi-compatible with Aquarius due to them having the same fixed quality. There are many variables that determine compatibility in astrology, such as birth dates, birth months, birth years, position of a sign within the Sun, the Moon, Stars, etc. The signs listed as compatible with Aquarius do not reflect an 'individual profile' or individual reading as interpreted within astrology, but rather reflect a general guideline and reference to compatibility as dictated by variables such as Qualities and Elements within the Zodiac. The branch of astrology dealing with interpersonal compatibilities is called Synastry. [1] |
PiscesThe Fish
February 19th - March 20th Element: Water Planet: Jupiter Quality: Mutable |
MythologyAccording to one Greek myth, Pisces represents the fish into which Aphrodite and her son Eros transformed in order to escape the monster Typhon; they are tied together with a cord on their tails, to make sure they do not lose one another. Alternatively, the twin fish were placed in the heavens in honor of their heroic deed of saving Aphrodite and Eros from Typhon on the river Euphrates. CompatibilitiesGenerally, the natives of Pisces are considered to be compatible with the natives of the other water signs, Cancer and Scorpio, and the natives of the earth signs, Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. Gemini and Sagittarius are signs of the other nature (masculine/extroverted), but are considered semi-compatible with Pisces due to them having the same mutable quality. There are many variables that determine compatibility in astrology, such as birth dates, birth months, birth years, position of a sign within the Sun, the Moon, Stars, etc. The signs listed as compatible with Pisces do not reflect an 'individual profile' or individual reading as interpreted within astrology, but rather reflect a general guideline and reference to compatibility as dictated by variables such as Qualities and Elements within the Zodiac. The branch of astrology dealing with interpersonal compatibilities is called Synastry. [1] |
